If you have a child relative who is orphaned, you may also be able to bring them to Australia on a child visa.


For some, bringing a child to Australia can be an incredibly exciting time. It can also be a very stressful and overwhelming time for many parents or guardians.


There are a number of different child visas available depending on your child’s circumstances.

About this Visa

Off-shore Child Visas

  • Child Visa (subclass 101): An off-shore child visa enabling your biological or step child to remain in Australia as a permanent resident.


  • Adoption Visa (subclass 102): An off-shore visa enabling you to bring your adopted child to Australia and remain as a permanent resident. There is no onshore version of the adoption visa.


  • Orphan Relative Visa (subclass 117): An off-shore visa allowing some relatives of Australians to remain permanently in Australia if they are orphaned.


On-shore Child Visas

  • Child Visa (subclass 802): An on-shore child visa enabling your biological or step child to remain in Australia as a permanent resident.


  • Orphan Relative Visa (subclass 837): An on-shore visa allowing some relatives of Australians to remain permanently in Australia if they are orphaned.
