Temporary Graduate Visa

Overview

You may be eligible for this visa if you are an international student who has completed 2 years of study in Australia. It can last from between 18 months and 4 years depending on your situation.

If you are a recent Engineering student, you may be eligible for the Recognised Graduate (subclass 476)

About this visa

Temporary Graduate (subclass 485)

You must be in Australia when you make your application for a 485 visa, and must have held an eligible student visa within the 6 month prior to lodging the application.

If you have graduated from a regional institution, you may be eligible to secure an extra 1 or 2 year visa.

There are two Streams for this visa:

• Post Study Work Stream (PSWS)
  For international students who recently graduated with at least a bachelor degree or above from an Australian institution.
  
  The visa can last between 2 and 4 years. You need to have completed studies at the Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate level which take at least 2 academic years.
  
  There are no occupations for the PSWS stream, and it is not points tested.
  
  
• The Graduate Work Stream
  For international students who recently graduated with at least a diploma with skills and qualifications relevant to specific occupations.
  
  Your occupation must be on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and you must pass a skills assessment in your nominated occupation.
  
  The visa is valid for 18 months from the date of grant.
