You may be eligible for the New Zealand Family Relationship visa if you are in a relationship with a New Zealand Citizen but are not a New Zealand Citizen yourself. This is a temporary visa that can be continuously renewed.
About this Visa
The New Zealand Family Relationship visa is a temporary 5 year visa and does not directly lead to permanent residency. You have the option of continuously renewing the visa every 5 years, or may be eligible for another permanent visa.
Bridging Visa
If you apply for this visa onshore, you may be entitled to a bridging visa. This enables you to remain onshore while you are waiting for a decision on your visa.
Health Insurance
You will need to confirm if your country has reciprocal healthcare agreements with Australia. If not, then you may need to purchase a health insurance policy to ensure you are medically covered while you are in Australia.
If your relationship breaks down
You can still apply for a further five year 461 if your relationship has broken down and you have not entered in a new relationship. If you do begin a new relationship, you may be eligible for the Partner Visa 820/801 (links to the Partner Visa (subclass 820/801) visa page) instead.
If you’re not in a new relationship and decide to renew the visa, you must continue to meet health and character requirements, have maintained residency in Australia (two out of the last five years).
You may be eligible for this visa if:
